City Themed Aquarium Wedding in Boston

Posted on April 12, 2013

Modernly Wed is finally back up! Thank you for your patience over the last four (!!) days while the site was down. Today, I have a fabulous, modern aquarium wedding to share with you. Captured by Summer Street Photography, Samantha and Ben were married  on a gorgeous day last August in a ceremony overlooking the Boston Harbor. The couple prepped at the downtown Boston Hilton Hotel before meeting at Post Office Square for a touching first look. I love how happy they are to see each other on their wedding day! Next, Samantha and Ben wandered around the city for a few lovely portraits, including a few stunning images on a carousel. Their ceremony was filled with sweet words and the perfect first kiss, all with a refreshing harbor breeze. Cocktail hour(buy inexpensive cocktaill dresses) was spent among the New England Aquarium’s fish tanks and penguins, followed by a city themed reception behind the aquarium. Samantha designed the Boston inspired wedding invitations, escort cards and table numbers. Each guest received a “T-pass” (Boston subway card) as an escort card that also doubled as a luggage tag gift. The T-pass escort cards corresponded with tables named after T stops that held significance in the couple’s relationship. This is another unique wedding that makes me miss my days in Boston!

A few words from the bride:

Ben went to school at MIT and I was across the river at Boston Unviersity. We met through mutual friends and never looked back. We share a love for nerdy humor and lazy Sundays with our beagle Hunter. We knew we had something special when we survived living together in a tiny 400 sqft studio apartment. After several years we bought a house together and Ben proposed on our first night together in the new house. We took our time planning the wedding, which allowed us to choose the exact date and venue we wanted without too much pressure.

We wanted to have a simple wedding with personal touches and a hint of whimsy. We centralized our wedding in the Boston area; the city where we. We chose the New England Aquarium as our venue because we were smitten with the view of the Boston Harbor for our ceremony and the idea of having penguins at the wedding! The venue’s central location in the city also allowed for our out of town guests to explore the city during their stay. While the small DIY wedding projects became overwhelming at times, it was worth all the effort! After 6 years of being together, Ben and I were married at sunset and successfully planned the party we wanted.

RECENTLY PINNING: BRIGHT + CHEERFUL

Bright + cheerful rainbow party ideas

Are you guys sick of hearing me complain about the weather yet? Because I’m getting sick of myself. I’m not usually one to bemoan Mother Nature, but seriously. It’s pushing mid-April and yesterday I was dodging snowflakes. Snowflakes, people. All of this to say, I probably shouldn’t be surprised that I’m pinning everything bright and cheerful I lay eyes on like it’s my job this week. Parties decked out in swags of colorful garland? Pinned! Clusters of rainbow hued balloons? Pinned! It’s a giant please-deliver-some-sunshine wishfest going on over here. And you know what? It may just be working because I feel cheerier just looking at these photos. For more of the happy things that are striking my fancy, pop on over to Pinterest and follow along!

The Perfect Sunset ✈ Destination Wedding in Santorini, Greece

The weather has broken once again and the rain is pouring from the heavens, making today’s destination wedding in Santorini, that bit sweeter. I’m forever amazed at the clean and incredibly bright whites and blues that are synonymous with Greek living (the first five images are an inspiration board in themselves!) and think they provide an utterly stunning back drop to this beautiful destination wedding, made just for two.  Steve and Cassie flew from Oklahoma to Santorini to say ‘I do” in a very intimate ceremony that was captured so so perfectly by Sarah Falugo Photography.

Cassie and Steve met at the  Oklahoma State University homecoming. Last Christmas, after a romantic trip into town to see the twinkling Christmas lights, Steve asked Cassie to grow old with him when they returned home. She of course said “yes” and after the excitement over their engagement calmed down, they began the task of organising their wedding. From the moment they set eyes on the beautiful volcanic island of Santorini, Greece and the Ikies Traditional Houses,  they knew they had found the place they wanted to start the rest of their lives in.  To them, it was one of the most romantic places they had ever seen. They used a planner to help with the legal side of getting married there but after that, they kept it nice a simple with a ceremony overlooking the ocean. I for one, don’t think I’ve ever seen a more perfect sunset.

Thank you so much to both Steve and Cassie for allowing us to share their wedding in Greece on the blog today. A very special thank you to the lovely Sarah from Sarah Falugo Photography , her photography is just as breathtaking as that sunset so get over to her blog for some more loveliness.

Rays apologize after mascot wields 'inappropriate' Steve Irwin sign

So here's what "Raymond," the Rays' official mascot, did to put his employers squarely in damage-control mode (image courtesy of Lloyd Johnson) ...

Shots fired! You'll recall, of course, that Steve Irwin -- better known by his nom de insanity, "The Crocodile Hunter" -- met his untimely demise in 2006 after being gored in the chest by a stingray. Therein lies the joke and the fallout.

As the Tampa Tribune notes, the sign was not Raymond's; rather a fan handed it to him, and Raymond subsequently brandished it for a photo op. So at worst, consider the world's furriest ray to be merely an accessory to poor taste.

As for the team, here's the official statement:

"Rays mascot Raymond was handed an inappropriate sign brought to the game by a fan. Fans are welcome to bring signs into Tropicana Field provided they are not offensive.

"The Tampa Bay Rays regret that this particular sign was displayed in the ballpark, and we apologize for the lapse in judgment."

No word on whether Raymond will be handed over to Randall Simon for corporal punishment.
